Last week one big event happened in New
York, in the Hampstead- Long Island, precisely. I was very excited to watch it, just like many Americans. The second debate between Republicans and
Democrats! And like everybody else who wants to do the best for the country,
and one of the many ways to make that happen is to vote conscientiously, I
also want to make sure the country that I live and love is going to be okay
with a reliable person to run the presidential office.
Therefore, I left school earlier and made
it home in time, fortunately! And I’m glad I did, because after watching the debate, I
came to understand many of both parties’ promises and views. Not only
understand but also "chose my candidate". It’s a fact that I won’t vote, but
learning about how politics work in this country makes me not only understand about
American culture but also improves my English vocabulary. And of course, I
don’t want to be a foreign who doesn’t know anything about the country I
live. I want to be able to speak with people about any subject, even with a
limited vocabulary, but still be able to discuss my point of view.
About the debate, I always believed in
Obama and am a big fan of his. Needless to say, that I was supporting him from
beginning to end. I’m not a politic pro, but in my opinion,
President Obama did great in his last debate. He was as aggressive as he
should be. He replied to all Romney’s offensives comments and insinuations in a
very clear and elegant way. President Obama gave supporting facts and examples for
the voters which is a way to show that he knows what he is talking about. On
the contrary, Mitt Romney didn’t provide his voters with enough supporting
facts about his ideas. He did not convince me because he never
explained how his plans are going do be done exactly. On the other hand, I agreed (in this debate)
with Romney’s idea about immigration, which is a little different from what
he’s said in the last speeches. Now, he changed his mind saying that
he will support those who are legally studying, to get good jobs, but he still
thinks that illegal immigrants who spent their whole life here, should not be
here. Really Governor?
I do understand that illegal immigration is a big problem in the USA and that it has to stop. However, it’s no fair with people who’ve been here for many years to have a
miserable life and being forced to go back to a place where they don’t belong
to, because THAT is Mitt Romney’s point of view. How can we trust on a
candidate who first says that he will make illegal immigrants deport themselves
and that Arizona law should be an example for the country, then a couple of
speeches later, changes his mind? I can’t trust on a person who keeps changing mind.
When asked about the energy department to
lower gas prices and oil issues, this is one of the things that Obama said:
"We've got to control our own energy ... not only oil and natural
gas, which we've been investing in, but also we've got to make sure we're
building the energy sources of the future, not just thinking about next year,
but 10 years from now, 20 years from now. That's why we've invested in solar
and wind and biofuels, energy-efficient cars." Efficient energy.
Although neither Obama nor Romney answered the question about gas price, that was my favorite part of the debate. Obama showed that he is not
only interested in winning the election, but he also demonstrated that he will work
hard to make a cleaner air to our future generation which is not cheap and THAT is an attitude
that we expect. If the president is not an example, how can he expect the same
from his voters? Mitt Romney didn’t talk about that subject with the same
passion as Obama did, and I didn’t like his attitude. According to what he
said, I think that working for a cleaner air is one of the last things that he
will worry about.
I was impressed by Romney's math skills honestly. The way that he explained
about his tax plans was just amazing. I wish I had that good memory and skills.
Oh, boy! That was great! Some people find the plan mathematically impossible to
succeed, however.
I don’t think he is a bad person, and I know he wants to run
the country because he also loves his country and he has good intentions, but I
don’t agree with some of his ideas and according to some specialists, his plan
on taxes doesn’t add up because the expenses are huge, even more than Obama’s
plan. It is easy for any candidate to say that he will get there and change the
economy and makes everything perfect, but once you are there and you know the
reality, things get very different.
Both, Obama and Romney want the
best for the country, and right now I just think that Obama’s plans are more
real. I don’t understand much about the math, whether their plans will work or not, but
that’s my opinion after reading many articles, some of them defending the
President, and others supporting Governor Mitt Romney. They all make perfectly sense to
me and I just hope that Americans chose the right person to be in the White
House for four more years. All we need is someone we can trust and who will do
the best to change the current situation of the United States of America. Someone who will really bring jobs and who cares about every single person
living in this country, not only part of the population.
That's is just my point of view on the last debate, and can't wait to watch the next one. Just an international student's point of view. I'm trying to understand better about politics in the USA and writing/reading about it maybe will help! ;)
I can’t forget to mention the great sense of humor of Barack Obama
saying that after taking a good nap in the first debate, he felt rested for the
second one. ahahaha Love his sense of humor!
Ps. I found the picture above on google...very funny!
